Wet Basement
This sump pump is one that some would consider underperforming. There is standing water in the sump pit and the pump cannot keep up with the entering water. Even though the water entering the basement has a sump pump to expel the water, the basement will be constantly wet, humid, and moist.
Not So Ugly Sump Pump
Looks may be decieving here. While this sump pump is in great condition and does the job for which it was installed, having an opening in the lid can allow for moisture to enter the basement and can contribute to mold growth.
Looks May Be Deceiving
Again, here is a seemingly functional pump, and it is. But, the hole in the lid does not prevent moisture and/or radon gas from entering the basement.
Ugly Sump Pump
This sump pump does little to keep moisture and radon gas out of the basement. The only route water has to the sump pump is a dug out area against the wall.
Another Wet Basement
This sump pump does not seem to have any issues either. But, looking closer, we can see dampness around the base of the walls. This sump pump may be functioning, but it is not getting all the water out. Moisture is accumulating in the basement regardless.
