Murali K. of Mount Vernon, IL noticed water seeping into the basement and soaking the carpet. After removing some drywall and the skirting board, he found cracks in his foundation. Water was leaking in through the cracks, as well as through the joint between the foundation walls and floors, which had begun to rot the dry wall and woods frames, especially the lower half so they called Woods Basement Systems. Woods recommended installing a basement waterproofing system.

Woods installed the WaterGuard drainage system under the cement floors along the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard features wall flanges as well as channel holes so it can collect water to from the foundation walls and floors of the basement and drain it to the sump pump for removal. Other systems sit either along the concrete footing or on the exterior of the foundation and are notorious for getting clogged by mud and plant roots. WaterGuard sits on top of the concrete footing, away from any mud or debris that might clog it.

Job Stories From Jefferson County, IL
WaterGuard Saves Wet Basement

A Carmi, IL resident was tired of dealing with a wet basement every time it rained for the past 22 years.  The water would come in through cracks in the walls and at the floor joints during heavy rains.  She was concerned about the possibility of mold and wanted a dry basement that she could use for storage.

Woods Basement Systems installed WaterGuard, IceGuard, and TrenchDrain in order to collect all of the water and lead it out and away from the house.  The resident was very pleased with the work that was done by Woods and said they were the most professional crew she has ever worked with.

Wet Crawl Space in Mount Vernon, IL

A resident of Mount Vernon, IL called Woods Basement Systems to clean up his crawl space and eliminate humidity, odors, and mold.  He had been living in his house for 6 years and was aware of the problem since he first moved in.  He finally decided to do something about it when 4 inches of standing water accumulated in his crawl space.  Some of the wood had begun to rot, and this was a big concern of the resident.

Woods installed a CleanSpace Encapsulation System, including CleanSpace liner and a SaniDry CX.  The clean white material covered the floor and walls of the crawl space, making it a nice dry storage space for the resident.  The SaniDry CX acted as an air filter and dehumidifier, resulting in dry clean air in the crawl space.

The resident was extremely pleased with the installation and how much of a difference it made in his crawl space.  Now he no longer had to worry about rotting wood and other issues that could lead to major problems in his crawl space.

Waterguard Installation in Ladue, MO

Todd H. of Ladue, MO, had a completely finished basement including a family/TV room and a home gym. Recently after heavy rains, water leaked into the basement and caused significant damage to the drywall as well as some water damage to the flooring. Todd's finished basement is no longer a sight to see.

Todd reached out to Woods Basement Systems for assistance. The system design specialist from Woods recommended several options for improvment. After careful consideration, Todd decided to go forward with the Waterguard and trench drain installation.

The WaterGuard system helps to control the direction of water leaking from basement walls as well as water that seeps in where the wall meets the floor. The trench drain will prevent water from flooding in from an outer entry way. After these improvements to Todd's basement, it is safe to say that Todd will be able to restore his basement back to its original character without any concerns of water damage in the future.

Geo-Lock Wall Anchors Permanently Stabilize Walls in Opdyke, IL

Gene and Donna L. of Opdyke, IL had severely bowing foundation walls throughout their basement. The walls had long cracks and, even though Gene and Donna had tried to patch them, the cracks kept reopening and new ones would form. They were worried the walls might fail so they called Woods Basement Systems for a free assessment. Design Specialist Kevin E. inspected the inside and outside of the foundation walls and recommended installing Geo-Lock Wall Anchors.

The Geo-Lock Wall Anchors were installed along the bowing, cracking walls. Geo-Lock Wall Anchors counteract unstable soil pressure on the outside of the walls that causes damage. Wall plates on the inside of the walls are connected to earth anchors embedded in more stable soil in the yard using steel anchor rods. The rods are tightened and the walls are permanently stabilized in place. The walls can also be straightened over time in most cases by tightening the anchor rods during periods of dry weather.

Gene and Donna L. are relieved that they no longer have to worry about their walls failing because they are secure and stable.

Crawlspaces Insulated and Encapsulated in St. Elmo, IL

Randy and Jennifer I. of St. Elmo, IL had two crawlspaces that were causing major issues in their home. Standing water would get into their crawlspaces which caused mold to grow on the walls and the beams above to rot. The floors above the larger crawlspace were sagging because of the weakened beams. Drafts and musty smells came into their home from their crawlspace, as well, so they called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Greg B. inspected the crawlspaces and recommended installing a crawlspace encapsulation system as well as SmartJacks.

SmartJacks were installed along the beams of the larger crawlspace. SmartJacks are adjustable steel columns that are held in place by concrete footings that will support and stabilize floors in place and can also lift floors back to their original position.

SilverGlo Insulation Panels were installed along the walls of the crawlspaces. SilverGlo is made of rigid polystyrene foam insulate the crawlspace and prevents air infiltration. It’s waterproof so it forms a moisture barrier over the walls and directs water to the perimeter drainage system.

CleanSpace was installed along the walls and floors of the crawlspaces. CleanSpace is a durable, thick plastic liner that forms a vapor barrier between the foundation walls and dirt floors which will reduce humidity in the crawlspace and prevent any moisture from getting in.

Along the floors of the crawlspaces, drainage matting was installed. It’s dimpled design provides channels for standing water to disperse to the perimeter drainage system.

SmartPipe was installed along the foundation walls of the basement. It’s a drainage system that has rows of holes covered in filter fabric so it won’t become clogged by mud or debris as it collects water from the walls and floors of the crawlspace and takes it to the sump pumps for removal.

In the larger crawlspace, the TripleSafe was installed to take the water from WaterGuard and pump it out and away from the crawlspace through its discharge lines. It contains three powerful pumps, including a battery back up pump, to ensure that in all weather conditions or power outages, the crawlspace will remain dry.

In the smaller crawlspace, the SmartSump was installed. The SmartSump is designed to fit seamlessly with the CleanSpace barrier and is equipped with a powerful, cast iron pump.

IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines on the exterior of the crawlspaces. IceGuards were designed to prevent water from re-entering the crawlspace if the lines become frozen or clogged by allowing it to escape through slotted openings.

The SaniDry Dehumidifier was installed in the larger crawlspace. It keeps the relative humidity low in the crawlspaces to prevent musty smells and rot.

Randy and Jennifer are glad they can finally use their crawlspace for storage without worries of water damage and that they’ll no longer have drafts or musty smells coming from their crawlspaces.

Earth anchors are embedded in the yard and attached to wall plates on the inside of the walls with galvanized steel anchor rods. They permanently stabilize walls in place and prevent future damage.

CleanSpace was installed over the foundation walls. CleanSpace is a 20 mil thick, durable plastic moisture barrier that prevents water from entering the basement through the foundation walls, instead directing it down to the drainage system.

Woods installed the TripleSafe to accept the water from the WaterGuard and pump it out of the basement through its discharge lines. The TripleSafe contains a primary, a secondary and battery back up pump to ensure that the basement is protected from water, even when weather is severe or there is a power outage.

Woods installed IceGuards on the discharge lines on the exterior of the home to prevent water from getting back into the basement if the discharge lines become frozen or clogged by snow during winter months. Mount Vernonn, Illinois homeowners Alan and Nancy noticed that their basement was getting wet and it was time to take care of it. They gave Woods Basement Systems a call and System Design Specialist Brandon developed a plan for them.

Foreman Mason and his crew installed the waterproofing system that included CleanSpace and WaterGuard. The CleanSpace goes on the wall and collects water vapor that seeps through the porous walls. It directs it down the the wall to the WaterGuard. The WaterGuard also collects the water from gaps in the construction process before it gets to the floor. The WaterGuard leads the water to the sump pump to be removed from the home.

After the waterproofing was finished Foreman John and his crew installed EverLast Walls. The new walls replaced the ones that were removed because of mold from the wet basement. The EverLast Walls are inorganic so they will not mold. They are also easier to clean and damage resistant.

Alan and Nancy can now enjoy their basement and know their investments are safe and dry.

Waterproofing Systems Installed in Mount Vernon, Illinois

Mike G. of Mount Vernon, Illinois needed a new sump pump, so he called Woods Basement Systems for a solution. Systems design specialist, Luke B. recommended installing a TripleSafe sump pump, WaterGuard, and IceGuard.

Foreman, Donald A. installed the products. The TripleSafe sump pump works to protect your home with a primary pump, a secondary pump, and a battery-powered backup pump, so there should be no worries of the pump failing. WaterGuard is installed in the perimeter of the basement floor and it collects water that has seeped through the basement walls. It then guides that water to the sump pump to be pumped out and away from the home. IceGuard is placed on the outside of the home and it allows water to expel from the guards in the event that the pipes should clog or freeze.

Now Mike G. has a working sump pump and a dry basement.

Doug, manager of a veteran's loan center on Scott Air Base, called Woods Basement Systems because he was concerned with the sagging floors and cracking drywall on the inside of the building. He worried that the foundation might be settling, but he wasn't sure; so he called in some expert help.

Woods system design specialist Daniel visited the building and determined that while the foundation was not sinking, the floors joists in the crawl space were. Over time, moisture damaged the joists, causing the floors above to sag and sink. In order to fix this problem, several Smart Jacks were installed in the crawl space underneath the joists to level and support them. These jacks can support 60,000 pounds each, more than enough for a small business.

Leaking Finished Basement Fitted With CleanSpace And WaterGuard In Mt. Vernon, IL

Mount Vernon, Illinois homeowner Brittni had only recently finished her basement when she began to notice moisture issues. During heavy periods of rain, water would come out from behind the drywall and pool on the wood floor. This water had already badly damaged furniture and parts of the drywall, and Brittni was eager to have the problem taken care of.

Because Brittni neglected to waterproof BEFORE finishing, a Woods Basement Systems team led by foreman Greg first had to cut away sections of the drywall and rip up some of the wood flooring to gain access to the foundation before any work could be started. Once this was done, the waterproofing work was started by installing an under-floor WaterGuard drainage system at the base of the leaking walls to catch any and all water. After this, a CleanSpace vapor barrier was put in place to cover the foundation walls and trap moisture. Finally, a TripleSafe sump pump was installed to remove any water from the home. Brittni's basement is now totally dry.

Window Woes

Windows are a vulnerable place in a basement where water can leak through. Just look at this window in Belle Rive, IL.

There are several ways to fix this problem, like installing a more water-proof window well or adding a WellDuct™, which is a vertical drainage system inside the house that drains the water from the window well and into the sump pump system.

Richard H. of Belle Rive, IL decided on better window wells with a domed cover to prevent rainwater from pouring in and Wood's Basement Systems was able to help him with that.

Needing A New Dehumidifier

Katie W. of Belle Rive, IL. had a dehumidifier running in her basement, but that dehumidifier wasn't giving the results she needed.

That's because dehumidifiers like this one are inefficient at removing moisture from the air and often rely on buckets to catch the water they collect. Once those buckets are filled, the dehumidifier shuts off until the buckets are emptied.

While Katie's dehumidifier did empty automatically into her drainage system, it wasn't able to keep up with the moisture in the air, making her home feel dank and cave-like. The best solution was to switch her old dehumidifier out with a Sedona dehumidifier.

The Sedona not only drains automatically, but it can remove up to 100 pints of water from the air every day. That's nearly 12 and a half gallons! This system will keep her home at exactly the right amount of moisture in the air and it can do it with the same amount of power use as much smaller dehumidifiers.

As if that wasn't enough, it can also filter the air, removing particles like dust mites or mold spores. Not only will this give the air a clean, comfortable feel and smell, but it will also protect the home against mold and reduce exposure to allergens like dust mite droppings.

Katie W. can breathe a sigh of dry, comfortable relief with the Sedona dehumidifier removing moisture and nasty particles from her air.
