A concrete sidewalk leading up to a house was sinking in Waterloo, IL, causing concern. To solve this issue, the PolyLevel System was first installed. This will stabilize, lift, and level the concrete slabs with high-strength polyurethane foam. Pea-sized holes were drilled into the concrete and the foam was injected to fill the void underneath. This installation technique allows the foam to expand as it cures, precisely lifting the slab back up. Additionally, NexusPro Joint Sealant was installed. He was tired of cleaning up the mess and worrying about rain in the forecast so he called Woods Basement Systems for a free inspection. Design Specialist Chad B. assessed the inside and outside of the basement and found the perfect solution to Timothy’s water problem.

It guides the water to the sump pump for removal from the basement.

They create vapor barrier that prevents water vapor and moisture from entering the basement. They are also completely waterproof and work with the waterproofing system by directing water to the perimeter drainage system. It is a drainage system that is situated in a way that it won’t be clogged by mud as it collects water from the foundation walls and floors of the basement and drains it to the sump pump.

The TripleSafe Sump Pump System was installed to take the water collected by the WaterGuard and pump it out of the basement through its discharge lines. The TripleSafe contains three pumps: a primary pump, a more powerful secondary pump and a battery back up pump. If the primary pump fails or isn’t keeping up with the rising water, the secondary pump will kick in to ensure the basement remains dry. If there’s a power outage, the battery back up pump will keep pumping water pumping out of the basement.

IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines on the exterior of the home. IceGuards have slotted openings prevent water from coming back into the basement if the discharge lines become frozen during the winter months.

On the exterior of the home, IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines. Geo-Lock Wall Anchors and Polylevel Installed in Waterloo, IL

Amy H. of Waterloo, IL had found the cracks on the outside of her foundation and noticed that there was a crack along the top of her finished walls on the inside of her basement. She also had an uneven cement walkway and driveway. She was worried about the safety of her home’s foundation and the tripping hazards her walkway and driveway posed so she called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Jeremy K. inspected her foundation and cement slabs and recommended installed Geo-Lock Wall Anchors and PolyLevel.

Woods installed Geo-Lock Wall Anchors along the cracked foundation walls. Earth anchors are embedded in more stable soil conditions in the yard and connected to galvanized steel anchor rods that have been driven through the foundation walls. The anchor rods are attached to wall anchor plates on the inside of the walls and permanently stabilize the foundation walls in place.

Woods injected Polylevel through the cement slabs of the walk and driveway that had sunk which caused the unevenness. PolyLevel is an expanding polymer foam that lifts and lefts the slabs. It cures in about 15 minutes so the walk and driveway can be used in much less time than traditional mudjacking, which can take an hour.

Amy H. is relieved that she no longer has to worry about tripping hazards and that her foundation walls are safe and secure.

Basement and Crawlspace Waterproofed in Columbia, IL

Mike and Andrea D. of Columbia had major water issues in their basement and crawlspace. Along the foundation walls in the basement and crawlspace, Woods installed CleanSpace. CleanSpace is a thick durable moisture barrier that can be installed on uneven surfaces like the stone foundation in this home. It prevents moisture from entering into the basement through the walls and instead directs it to the drainage system below.

The WaterGuard drainage system was installed under the cement floors along the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard is designed to collect water from the foundation walls and joints were the walls meet the floors, the places where most water intrusion occurs, and drains it to the sump pump for removal. Because it is situated on top of the concrete footing of the home, the WaterGuard system is kept safely away from mud that might clog it.

Woods installed the Twin Pack to take the water from the drainage system and pump it out and away from the basement through its discharge lines. The Twin Pack contains two powerful cast-iron pumps that sit within different levels within the sump liner. This allows the Twin Pack to be effective against small leaks and heavy downpours.

IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines on the exterior of the home. IceGuards prevent water from coming back into the basement if the lines become frozen during cold winter months. They feature slotted openings that give water an alternative escape route into the yard.

Keeping a Driveway Even

Over time, concrete can settle, causing gaps to form or creating an uneven surface. This happened to Jeff B.'s driveway and back patio in Columbia, IL.

When concrete settles it is often because the soil beneath it has compressed from the weight above it or because it has been washed away be water. In fact, there are many reasons why the soil beneath the concrete may not be able to support the weight above it. Whatever the reason is, the settling can cause concrete to be uneven or damaged. To keep it even and undamaged, Jeff B. needed a system to level the concrete and to seal the cracks between the blocks.

The system was PolyLevel™. PolyLevel™ is a super-durable polymer that solidifies into a light-weight foam. Tiny holes are drilled into the uneven concrete surfaces and PolyLevel™ is injected beneath the concrete. The foam lifts the concrete and then solidifies into position. Unlike similar solutions like mudjacking, PolyLevel™ is lightweight and won't cause the soil beneath the concrete to settle any more. This makes it a more permanent solution as it levels the concrete without adding to the weight.

Once the concrete is lifted back into place, new sealant is applied to the expansion joints in the concrete. This sealant keeps water and debris out while still being pliable enough to handle the stress of concrete shifting and expanding during temperature changes. Unlike other sealants, NexusPro™ can do all of this while still being resistant to UV rays that cause other sealants to crack or bubble.

With a leveled and sealed driveway and patio, Jeff B. won't have to worry about concrete cracking or settling unevenly due to soil settling beneath the driveway.

Keeping Basement Air Dry

This large basement in Waterloo, IL. had waterproofing systems in place like a sump pump and waterproof liners on the walls. These systems couldn't keep the air dry, however.

That's why homeowner Roger Z. turned to Mike B. from Woods Basement Systems to install a Sedona dehumidifier. The large space of the basement proved to be too much for the small dehumidifier Roger had, but wouldn't be a challenge for the Sedona. With the power to remove more than 12 gallons of moisture from the air, the Sedona can dry even large, open spaces like this. And because the Sedona drains the moisture it collects into the sump pump system, there's no buckets to empty and no shutting off because the dehumidifier is full. The Sedona will also filter the air from mold spores and dust mites while it's drying the air too.

This large basement space can now be used comfortably as the air is dried by the Sedona dehumidifier.

Installing a Sump Pump in Columbia, IL

Water was entering a basement in Columbia, IL, causing damage and concern. To solve this issue, the WaterGuard System was first installed. This drainage system is installed adjacent to the home and provides a channel that connects to the sump pump.  Its design will drain any wall seepage without allowing dirt and debris from the floor to enter and clog the pipes.

Next, the TripleSafe Sump Pump was installed. This system assures protection from everyday problems with an ordinary pump. It can handle a heavy flow of water, thanks to a secondary pump included inside that will help eliminate the water if the first pump is unable to keep up with the amount of water that is entering it. It also features a removable airtight lid that reduces noise, prevents objects from falling in, and keeps moisture, insects, and odor from coming out of the sump. This basement will now stay dry all the time thanks to these systems!
