Why ledge walls are not the best solution for bowing basement walls

Many contractors in St. Louis, when hired to fix bowing basement wall problems will recommend building a ledge wall. The problem with ledge walls is that they are only a temporary fix, simply because they do not address the cause of the problem.

Basement walls crack and bow due to the pressure exerted on them by the movement of the soils that surround the foundation. which shrink during the dry season, and expand during the rainy season.

In this video we see an example of a failing ledge wall. While it held the bottom of the wall in place, it did nothing to relieve the pressure outside, therefore the wall started to bow and crack right above the ledge.

Woods Basement Systems patented wall anchor systems are designed to stabilize bowing walls, and in many cases even restore them to their original position.

Just like all of our Foundation Repair products, our wall anchors also carry a 25-year warranty!
