Job Stories From Jefferson County, MO
De Soto Home Moist No More

Joe is a homeowner in De Soto. In 2013, fed up with his wet basement, he made a life-changing (or at least home-changing) decision: he called Woods Basement Systems!

Today, his basement looks and feels drier, cleaner, and healthier. Why? It's a three-part answer. Part one is the WaterGuard, a drainage system running the perimeter of the basement floor. WaterGuard rests atop the concrete footing rather than in mud; it will not ever clog!

Part two is the TripleSafe, the surest choice among all sump pumps. This patented system collects water from the WaterGuard and pumps it out to a LawnScape Outlet, where the water is drained safely away from Joe's home. TripleSafe has a second pump to put the mind at ease and a back-up battery for when the power goes out.

Last but not least, Joe purchased three beautiful SunHouse Window Wells. Not only do they brighten up his basement, but these waterproof wells protect your basement window from the elements, dirt, and debris.

Joe took advantage of Woods' free home inspection, and so can you. Our certified specialists will be able to describe your exact basement issue and recommend a plan for repair. Keep your basement dry the Woods way!

WaterGuard™ Installed in Florissant, MO.

For many basements, water leaks are most common where the wall meets the floor. This is because there is a small gap there from construction. Water levels can rise from below the floor and eventually leak inside through this gap.

This was the case for Lee T. from Florissant, MO. who had water leaking into his basement. To stop the water from leaking in, Mike B. from Woods Basement Systems installed WaterGuard™. WaterGuard™ is a system made up of specially designed pipes that drain water into the sump pump system before it rises above the floor. It can also drain away leaks from the walls thanks to a built in gap that catches the water.

Unlike other systems that are placed next to the footing, WaterGuard™ is placed on top of the footing. Because it is on the footing, it is clear of the mud that sits near the footing. This means it doesn't need filter fabrics like the other systems do. While those other systems' filters clog, the WaterGuard™ system will keep working to keep the basement dry.

WaterGuard™ is the best drainage system to keep basements dry because it is specially designed for basements. Now Lee T. has protection from water leaking into his basement from the gap where the floor meets the wall, as well as from leaks through the walls themselves.

This home in Affton, MO. had dangerously high levels of Radon. Radon is an odorless, tasteless gas that occurs naturally in the soils beneath a home. It can rise into the home, where it can cause health problems as serious as lung cancer in the residents.

This mitigation system includes a pipe that will carry it from beneath the home to a special fan outside that will blow it high into the air above the home where it can dissipate safely.

The mitigation system can include an interior fan if access to the outside is limited, and can be installed alongside waterproofing systems without compromising their effectiveness. In this home, CleanSpace™ wall liners and a TripleSafe™ sump pump share space with this Radon mitigation system.

Mitigating Radon in Barnhart, MO.

Most homes have Radon rising up from the basement and through the house. That's because Radon is a naturally occuring gas that forms beneath the soil. While low levels of Radon are common, some homes have dangerously high levels of Radon. Higher levels of Radon can be hazardous to the health of the occupants. In fact, according to the Surgeon General, Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind cigarettes. While there is no way to remove Radon totally, there is a way to mitigate its presence in the home.

A special fan and duct are installed to siphon the Radon from beneath the home and expel it safely above the home. A pipe is installed that will collect Radon gas from where it naturally forms beneath the floor. This pipe is connected to a special fan, usually installed outside, that will create a very light suction effect at the end of the pipe. The Radon is sucked up in this manner and carried above the level of the home, where it can dissipate safely into the air.

With a Radon mitigation system in place, the levels of Radon inside the home will go down to safe levels, reducing the risk of serious health issues for the inhabitants. Now this home is protected from high levels of Radon permanently, thanks to a special Radon mitigation fan and pipes.

These homeowners had already put down their own flooring, but wanted to have the walls done as well. Our specialist knew wood studs, fiberglass insulation, and drywall can spell disaster in the event of a leak or high humidity. So, Woods Basement Systems framed the basement with metal studs and finished the walls with the inorganic EverLast Basement Wall Panels, made from 2 1/2-inch thick rigid foam insulation with 1/2-inch thick cement board cladding. The cement board is finished with an off-white vinyl surface treatment.

What was once a cold, bare, and dark unfinished basement used only for storage is now a beautifully-finished, warm, and bright basement playroom and sewing room.  What a transformation!
