Rene’s home in Foristell, MO was dramatically shifting due to her foundation soils.  After turning to the yellow pages for professional help, she found Woods Basement Systems and scheduled a free estimate with system design specialist, Norman Gansz.

Irvington, IL was many home with crawl spaces.  During rain events, water will get into crawlspaces.  Wet soil in a crawl space can cause serious issues espicially with the wood beams and wood sub-floor above the dirt crawlspace floor. The floors above the crawlspace may sag or become uneven due to the moisture evaporating and getting absorbed by the wood as well as settling of the columns that held up the beams. Woods Basement Systems provides free estimates to repair these problems. In this case, Design Specialist Brenton K. inspected a crawlspace in Irvington and determined the best solution would be to install a supplemental support system and encapsulate the crawlspace.

Woods installed SmartJacks. SmartJacks are supplemental steel columns that are held in place by concrete footings in the crawlspace floors and connected to the beams and floor joists above. They are tightened into place to stabilize the beams and can potentially lift the floors above.

To encapsulate the crawlspace, Woods installed CleanSpace Vapor Barrier along the walls and floors of the crawlspace. CleanSpace is a durable, thick plastic liner that prevents water and pests from entering the crawlspace. Drainage matting was installed along the floors underneath the CleanSpace. Its dimpled design provides channels for standing water in the crawlspace to disperse the the drainage system around the perimeter of the crawlspace.

SmartPipe was installed around the perimeter of the crawlspace against the foundation walls and in the dirt floors. It has five rows of holes covered in special filter fabric to collect water from the top of the dirt floors without becoming clogged by mud as well as larger holes on the back to accept water coming from the crawlspace walls. It then drains the water to the sump pump. The SmartSump pump was installed because it is specifically designed to work with the CleanSpace vapor barrier. It contains a powerful cast iron pump which will evacuate the unwanted water out of the crawlspace through its discharge line. On the exterior of the crawlspace, an IceGuard was installed on the discharge line. If the discharge line becomes frozen or clogged, it escapes the the holes in the IceGuard so it doesn’t come back into the crawlspace.

The SaniDry dehumidifier was installed on the inside of the crawlspace too.  It will lower any humidity that may still get into the crawlsapce from outside or from above from the living space.  It helps prevents mold growth, from moisture getting to the wood that may cause rot and musty smells in the crawlspace by keeping the relative humidity low within the crawlspace.

A dry crawlspace is now a usable, dry storage space and with stable floors.

John and Gail S. of Champaign, IL had severely bowing brick walls in their basement. The walls were bulging in so much that John and Gail were worried about the walls collapsing so they called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Kevin E. inspected the foundation walls from the inside and outside and recommended installing Geo-Lock Wall Anchors.

Geo-Lock Wall Anchors were installed along the bowing brick walls. They counteract the external pressure from soil on the walls that causes damage. They connect steel wall plates to steel earth anchors embedded in more stabile soil in the yard using galvanized steel anchor rods. The rods are tightened to permanently stabilize the walls in place. Geo-Lock Wall Anchors can also straighten walls over time by tightening them during dry periods.

The Waterguard drainage system is placed above the footing of the basement and is then covered with concrete. It collects and drains any water coming up from the ground to the sump pump before it reaches the basement surface. The CleanSpace Wall System is made of a plastic liner that is placed over the walls. It acts as a vapor barrier and drains any leaks behind it. The Zoeller 1/3 hp pump is the main pump and is responsible for pumping the water most of the time.

The Geo-Lock Wall Anchor was installed in the basement, and attached to the bowing walls. This will keep the walls from moving any more than they already have, and will straighten them out over time.

Bryan S. of Worden, Illinois noticed that his front porch was sinking and breaking due to settlement. He did not want this problem to continue to happen, so he called Woods Basement Systems.

Design specialist Matthew S. assessed the situation and decided the best solution was to install a couple of helical piers. Foreman Jose L. then traveled to the home to get the job started. The helical piers are made of steel and are placed adjacent to the home. They are driven into the ground and stabilize and push the foundation back to its original position.

Bryan S. no longer has to worry about his front porch sinking and breaking. He now has a stable and level porch.

Fred D. of Trenton, Illinois noticed that the sidewalk leading to his door and the concrete around his pool was starting to sink. He did not want this to become a tripping hazard, so he called Woods Basement Systems.

Soon after, foreman William T. traveled to the home to get the job started. PolyLevel is a lightweight foam that is inserted below concrete through small, penny-sized holes. The SmartPipe drainage system accepts water from both the surface and soil of the crawl space. It then drains it to the sump pump. The SmartSump is a sump pump made specifically for crawl spaces. It collects and removes water from the crawl space through a discharge line. Finally, the CleanSpace Encapsulation System is a heavy duty liner that is place on the floors and up the walls of the crawl space. It acts as a vapor barrier and completely seals the crawl space from the earth.

Forman, Miguel O. installed the fully sealed system. An egress window provides an emergancy exitway and also helps to brighten up a basemet area while still keeping out moisture and critters. Now Felicity R. can fully enjoy her basement with its nice natural lighting!

Kristen of Nashville, Illinois was looking to protect her basement from water damage, so they called Woods Basement Systems to look into her options. She met with design specialist Jeremy K., who gave her a free estimate and designed a custom-fit solution for their waterproofing needs. Foreman Bradly P. installed a WaterGuard and a TripleSafe sump unit.

WaterGuard is a French drain system installed underneath the floor slab for clog-free drainage. It sends water to the TripleSafe unit, which uses three pumps for triple protection and uses the UltraSump battery backup system to keep it running in any weather. 

Kristen can now enjoy a clean, dry basement thanks to her new waterproofing system.

Denny of Oakdale, Illinois experienced leaking in his crawl space due to it not  unfinished, so he called Woods Basement Systems for a solution. After further inspection, systems design specialist, Brandon B. recommended installing CleanSpace, Sanidry Sedona, and a SmartSump.

Foreman, James L. installed the products. CleanSpace is a vapor barrier used to seal off a crawl space from dirt, moisture, and critters. It is made of inorganic materials, so it does not support mold growth. The Sanidry Sedona dehumidifier keeps a crawl space dry by keep moisture out and preventing mold from growing. Lastly, the SmartSump sump pump is specifically designed for crawl spaces and provides protection from leaks and floods.

Ben B. of Hoyleton, Illinois needed waterproofing work done in his home, so he called Woods Basement Systems for a solution. Systems design specialist, Luke B. recommended installing a twin pack sump pump, WaterGuard, and IceGuard. 

Foremen, Donald A installed the products. The Twin Pack sump pump includes two stainless steel pumps and can help fight against flooding and leaks. WaterGuard is installed in the perimeter of the basement floor and it helps to collect water that seeps through the walls and guides it to the sump pump to be pump out of the home. IceGuard is put on the outside of the home and it allows water to expel from them in case pipes clog or freeze, preventing water from leaking into the basement.

Clara of Du Bois, Illinois wanted to repair her musty, wet crawl space, so she decided to give Woods Basement Systems a call. Clara set up an appointment with Team Woods, our system design specialist went to the home, and after analyzing the space, he recommended installing CleanSpace.

CleanSpace is made out of inorganic material that creates a vapor barrier which seals the entire crawl space and isn't susceptible to mold growth. The TwinPack sump pump will help discard of the water leaks by pumping it out through the discharge line. In order to right and support the bowing wall, Bradley P., foreman, and his team installed 10 GeoLock wall anchors. These supports work by connecting a steel rod and anchor that is extended far out into the home's surrounding firmer soil to a plate that is affixed to the interior surface of the wall, effectively pulling the wall outward. Judith's wall won't be moving any time soon!

Stacey of Nashville, Illinois needed a solution to prevent her basement walls from cracking. Over time the cracks had become more profound, and she knew that the safety of her home was at risk. Stacey reached out to Woods Basement Systems and had a specialist look over the walls to see what an optimal solution would be.

Foreman Brett and his team waterproofed the crawl space by installing a CleanSpace encapsulation system throughout the entirety of the space. Uninsulated crawlspaces can increase the energy costs of the home substantially. Crawlspaces will allow unconditioned outside air to enter below the home. This outside air will then rise through the home and make the living spaces less comfortable.

Many crawlspaces can't be insulated properly because they are not protected from water leaks and vapor, but those that are should be insulated. Insulating the crawlspace includes blocking any windows and adding insulation to the gaps between the floor joists that make up the ceiling of the crawlspace. 

Usually, spray foam insulation is used in these areas as it is difficult to shape other forms of insulation to the space. In this home in Urbana, IL. sealed blocks of insulation are installed and spray foam is used as a supplement to block the cracks and offer total insulation.
