How to Fix Leaky Window Wells

If you have a window well that takes on water against the basement window, it will leak.  This will not automatically be fixed by your contractor when finishing your basement, but must be called out specifically.  There are obvious solutions to leaky window wells including extending downspouts, keeping your gutters clean, and ensuring there is a grade pitch away from your home.  But there is also another solution that Woods Basement Systems has to offer.

A flooded window well will allow water to leak into your basement around the frame, run down the wall, and flood your basement floor.  The best way to solve this problem is to install an interior perimeter drain like WaterGuard that will automatically drain away the water before the window well fills up and leaks into the basement.  The WellDuct window well drainage system is the best way to keep your basement dry.

First, the window well is cleaned on the outside and filled with clean stone and a grate.  Then a small hole is drilled through the wall to the inside just below the window sill.  This allows the water to drain out of the wall and through the small hole.  If the basement has a block foundation, the drain hole is sleeved with a pipe to prevent the water from going down into the wall.  The water runs down inside the WellDuct track to the interior waterproofing system, where it is carried to the sump pump and out and away from the home.

WellDuct has a sleek, contemporary design that looks clean and neat and matches both the WaterGuard and DryTrak waterproofing systems offered by Woods Basement Systems.  It is the perfect solution to your leaky window well problems.

Another option is to completely replace your window well if it is rusty, ugly, or open at the top.  Your nasty basement windows can be dramatically improved with the SunHouse Basement Window Enclosure.  One of the best features of the SunHouse window is the cover over the top of the window well.  Along with sealing out unwanted air, this keeps out leaves, debris, rain, and gutter overflow water.  It also keeps the window looking clean because weeds won’t grow outside of it and mud won’t splash up onto the exterior.

Plus, the sunlight bounces off the bright white color of the enclosure and brightens up your basement, where you can use all the natural light you can get.  If you want to improve the interior look of your basement, the SunHouse Basement Window Enclosure is the best replacement for those ugly basement window wells.
