As clay soil becomes wet, it expands, putting pressure on the foundation wall. No longer being able to withstand pressure from the soil, and outside pressure from water, this wall in Clay City, IL began to crack horizontally. This is the main sign of a bowing wall. 

Geo-Lock Wall Anchors work by connecting to the wall plate by a steel rod. This will provide pressure to the inside of the bowing wall. The anchors will stabilize the foundation and over time potentially move the walls back to their original position. 

Grant K was concerned when he noticed that his basement walls were beginning to bow. So, he decided to call Woods Basement Systems. One of our System Design Specialists was able to come up with a solution to the problem.

Foreman Jeremy R Installed a Geo-Lock Wall Anchor in Grant’s basement. The Wall Anchor has two ends, one will attach to stable soil away from the house, the other will attach to the basement walls. The Anchor can be tightened and overtime will straighten the walls.   

A crawlspace in Mattoon, IL was damp and needed some extra support. To do this, Woods installed a CleanSpace Encapsulation System. This will completely isolate the crawlspace from the earth, and dramatically reduces the air's humidity level, eliminating mold growth and rot from the crawlspace and making the whole house healthier. The bright white finished side will brighten the crawlspace and allows one to easily see that the crawlspace is free of mold, insects, and dirt. Additionally, the SmartJack System was installed. This will stabilize crawl space beams and floor joists, and lift the floors above the crawl space back toward their original elevation and reduce floor bounce caused by weakened floor joists or excessive spans. This crawlspace will remain dry, clean, and stable for years to come!

A crawlspace in a home in Mattoon Illinois needed some attention as the supports were starting to fail. To counter this problem, Woods installed the SmartJack System to stabilize the crawlspace beams and floor joists. A solid base of fill is first set to provide a solid foundation, and galvanized steel beams are custom fit and held in place by brackets. They also installed the CleanSpace Encapsulation System. This is a very thick liner that separates the cold, wet ground from the home above it. Thanks to these installs, this home will safely house its occupants for years to come!

John and Christine M. of Humboldt, Illinois were troubled by horizontal cracks in their block foundation. System Design Specialist Greg B. inspected the home and determined the cracks were a result of bowing walls. He designed a solution to restore the walls and keep the foundation supported.
