Crawl Space Vapor Barrier in Murphysboro, IL

Crawl Space Vapor Barrier in Murphysboro, IL

Crawl Space Vapor Barrier in Murphysboro, IL Crawl Space Vapor Barrier in Murphysboro, IL

Plastic crawl space vapor barriers may block a lot of moister vapor from the dirt but it vents most of it at the perimeter where the plastic cover is open nearest the wall.  Over time, this causes the wood floor joist and sill plate at the perimeter to rot, commonly called dry rot.  This is due to the seasonal temperature changes and the abundant moisture released from beneath the plastic cover condensing on the wood, then drying, getting absorbed again, then drying, and getting wet another day, then drying...  Our CleanSpace® encapsulation system, like the one installed in this Murphysboro, Illinois crawl space, STOPS this problem, helps reduce radon levels, control mold and bugs, and lower energy costs.

Job Stories From Williamson County, IL
Woods Solves Cold Basement Issue in St. Louis, MO

A St. Louis, MO customer called Woods Basement Systems in a panic because she had recently had work done by another company in her basement, yet there was still water seeping through the cracks.  She was very unsatisfied with the previous work that had been done, and all she had to show was an uneven chain link fence, concrete poured in her yard, and a cut cable line.

Woods sent out the Production Manager to inspect the issues and found that the windows that had been installed were measured incorrectly, which caused cracks and the temperature in the basement to drop.  The customer had Woods install Everlast windows and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Energy Saver.

The customer was very satisfied with the work done by Woods Basement Systems, and can now live comfortably in her basement.

BrightWall Basement in Carterville, IL

This Carterville, IL homeowner didn’t want to completely finish his basement, but also wanted something to give it a clean and polished look, while adding waterproof protection.  In the past, he had tried coating the walls with paints and sealants, but moisture still permeated through them.  This only made the walls look worse due to the peeling and flaky coatings on them.

Woods solved this homeowner’s issue by installing BrightWall.  The BrightWall Paneling System turns basements that may otherwise have been unusable into attractive, dry living spaces. The resident was very pleased with the end result and now enjoys a clean and dry basement.

Finding Comfort in Moscow Mills

Tim was living a very uncomfortable life in his Moscow Mills home. His first floor and master bedroom were drafty, the insulation from the laundry room was filling soffits, which restricted air flow, and on top of all that, Tim was basically paying to live in discomfort through his energy bills.

Dr. Energy Saver was on the case. By using the Stack Effect principle, where air leaking out of the home causes air to in, we were able to see that unwanted air was being sucked into the basement and the good conditioned air was escaping from the attic. Dr. Energy Saver installed rim joists and use spray foam in the basement to create a thermal barrier against air leaking in to reduce the first floor draft and used similar tactics to handle the comfort abilities and energy costs in the home.

Tim can now live in complete contentment thanks to Dr. Energy Saver.

Geo-Lock Foundation & CleanSpace in Ballwin, MO

Ballwin resident, Mary O, was concerned about the deterioration of her homes foundation over the years.  The basement walls were bowing & buckling, and the crawl space grew wet with a musty smell.  She was referred by a friend to call Woods Basement Systems.

On July 3rd, 2014, representative, Chris Tite visited Mary’s home to diagnose what was causing her issues.  After his assessment, Chris explained to Mary that the foundation soil was exceeding way too much pressure on the outside walls.  He suggested that a Geo-Lock Wall Anchor System will prevent them from getting worse, as well as help straighten them back to normal.  He also informed her on the state-of-the-art CleanSpace Liner that would act as a barrier from moisture, outside air, as well as pests.  This process of crawl space encapsulation would get rid of the musty smell.  Mary felt comfortable with Chris’s knowledge as well as Wood’s access to the high-tech materials, she decided Woods Basement Systems was the right one for the job.

On July 17th, foreman Todd Wells and his crew began the transformation.  The anchors were inserted in the soil outside the foundation.  There, they are connected to the foundation walls by a steel rod to apply pressure.  This procedure helps form them back to its original position.  Mary’s home required 50 feet of CleanSpace liner to cover her entire crawl space.  The liner will not only prevent the musty smell, but will also help save energy costs.

In just two days, the entire job was complete and Mary could not be happier with the results.  She is now more comfortable knowing her home's foundation is safe, clean and warranted.

Ken W. of Edwardsville, IL had water intruding in his basement each time there was a heavy rain. He was tired of dealing with the leaks so he called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Jacob K. inspected his basement and found the exact solution to Ken's water problem.

WaterGuard was installed in the concrete of the floor to catch any unwanted water and guide it to the sump pump. TripleSafe sump pump was installed to pump the unwanted water out through the discharge line and into the yard to drain. The Triplesafe is made up of a primary pump, secondary pump and has a back-battery pump that will get rid of the water even if the power has gone out. IceGuards were installed on the outside of the home to keep water from back back into the home if the discharge lines become frozen or clogged.

The SaniDry dehumidifier was installed to remove any moisture from the air and prevent mold growth as well as the musty smell that comes with it.

Ken is glad that he no longer has to clean up a mess every time it rains and his basement is liveable again.

Basement Waterproofed in Des Peres, MO

Mike W. of Des Peres, MO had water leaking into his finished basement. It was damaging the woods frames behind his walls and the belongings he stored in his basement. He’d had a waterproofing system installed by another company but it clearly wasn’t preventing water from getting in so he called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Mike T. assessed the basement and found the perfect solution for the water problem.

Woods removed the  bottom half of the old, water damaged wood frames and drywall and then installed WaterGuard under the concrete floors along the perimeter of the basement. It’s situated away from any mud so it won’t become clogged as it collects water coming in from the floors and walls then drains it away to the sump pump.

Woods replaced old, rusted sump pump with the TripleSafe Sump Pump System. The TripleSafe contains a primary, secondary and battery operated back up pump which ensures that, even if the primary pump fails or the power goes out, unwanted water will be pumped out the basement. IceGuards were installed on the exterior of the home on the discharge lines. Should the lines become frozen or clogged, water won’t come back into the basement because IceGuards give it an alternative escape route through its openings.

Woods then restored the bottom half of the finished walls with Everlast Wall Panels. The Everlast Wall Panels are completely waterproof so it won’t rot like drywall or wood frames and it works with the waterproofing system by preventing water from coming into the basement and directing it to the WaterGuard below

Mike W. has peace of mind that his finished basement and belongings will remain dry and he doesn’t have to worry about his walls getting water damaged again.

Finished Basement Waterproofed in St. Louis, MO

Michael and Laura O of St. Louis, MO had a partially finished basement that was continuously being flooded each time it rained. They were using fans to dry areas where they kept closets of clothing and gym equipment. It was obvious in the unfinished areas that the wood framing was beginning to rot after repeated water damage. They’d had a different company install a sump pump system but it was clearly not working so they called Woods Basements Systems. Design Specialist Nolan M. inspected the basement and found that a full perimeter waterproofing system would take care of their water issue.

Woods installed WaterGuard under the concrete floors, on top of the concrete footing along the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard is a drainage system that is positioned in a way that it sits away from any mud that may clog it as it collects water from the foundation walls and floors and drains it to the sump pump for removal.

The TripleSafe Sump Pump System replaced Michael and Laura’s non-functioning sump pump. The TripleSafe contains two powerful pumps to ensure that, even in severe downpours, water will be pumped out and away from the basement through the discharge lines.

Michael and Laura O. now have peace of mind that their belongings are safe in their basement because it will stay dry.

Walls Stabilized and Basement Waterproofed in Granite City, IL

Richard B. of Granite City, IL had cracking walls that were tilting inward. The cracks were leaking along with the floors and wall joints. Richard was worried the walls would fail and he was tired of the belongings he stored in the basement being damaged each time it rained so he called Woods Basement Systems for a free, no obligation estimate. Design Specialist John S. inspected the inside and outside of the basement and recommended a wall support system and basement waterproofing system.

Geo-Lock Wall Anchors were installed along the cracking and tilting walls. They permanently stabilize walls by counteracting soil pressure on the outside of the walls using earth anchors that are connected to wall plates on the inside of the walls using anchor rods. In most cases the walls can be straightened over time by tightening the anchors during dry periods.

WaterGuard was installed under the concrete floors along the perimeter of the basement. It is a drainage system that is situated away from any mud that might clog it as it collects encroaching water from the foundation walls and floors of the basement and drains it away to the sump pump for removal.

The TripleSafe was installed to remove the water collected by the WaterGuard. It contains three pumps: a primary, secondary and battery back up pump. This ensures that even in very severe weather or power outages, water will continue to be pumped out and away from the basement through the discharge lines. IceGuards were installed on the exterior of the home on the discharge lines. IceGuards ensure that water won’t come back into the basement if the lines become frozen by allowing it to escape through its slotted openings.

Richard B. is relieved that he no longer has to worry about his walls because they are stable and his belongings are safe from any damaging water.

Basement Waterproofed in Marion, IL

Corey K. of Marion, IL had a partially finished basement that had water leaking in each time it rained. His painted foundation floors had become stained from water seeping in and he was worried that his finished walls would become even more damaged if he left the problem unchecked so he called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Chris A. inspected the basement and recommended a basement waterproofing system.

Woods installed WaterGuard under the concrete floors along the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard is a drainage system that collects water seeping in through foundation walls and wall joints and drains it away to the sump pump.

The Twin Pack sump system was installed to collect water from the WaterGuard and pump it out and away from the basement through the discharge lines. The Twin Pack contains two powerful, cast-iron pumps to keep the basement dry even in heavy downpours. On the exterior of the homes, IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines. IceGuards prevent water from backing up into the basement if the lines become frozen by allowing it to escape through its slotted openings into the yard.

Corey K. has peace of mind that even when the forecast called for severe weather, his basement will remain dry.

WaterGuard, SaniDry and CleanSpace in Fredericktown, Missouri

Fredericktown, Missouri resident Myra L. has both a crawlspace and basement beneath her home. Unfortunately, both were wet and musty. The wet environment caused mold and allergens to take over the crawlspace and basement. System design specialist Jake S. designed a solution to renew the space beneath her home.

To waterproof the basement, foreman Greg H. installed WaterGuard, a perimeter drainage system. WaterGuard is installed below the floor and is designed to collect and guide water to the TwinPack sump pump system. In addition to WaterGuard and TwinPack, IceGuard was installed. IceGuard provides an exit for water in the event that the discharge lines become frozen or clogged.

For the crawlspace, Greg and his team installed the CleanSpace crawlspace encapsulation system. CleanSpace is an inorganic vapor barrier that prevents water from entering the crawlspace. Because it is inorganic, it does not support mold growth. To further prevent mold growth, SaniDry was installed. SaniDry is an energy-efficient dehumidifier.

Myra is pleased that her crawlspace and basement are now dry and mold free.

Homeowners get an Insulation Upgrade in Nashville, IL

OJ and Susan F. of Nashville, IL had a hard time heating and cooling their home. Rooms were uncomfortably hot in the summer no matter how much they used their air conditioner. They had the same issue with rooms being too cool in the winter despite turning up their heat. The energy bills seemed way too high even though they still weren’t comfortable in their home so they called Woods Basement Systems and Dr. Energy Saver. Design Specialist Peter N. performed a free energy audit on the home to find areas determine where energy was being lost and recommended air sealing and upgrading their insulation in their attic.

Gaps or holes like those around wiring, can lights, scuttle entrances and windows and doors in an attic can allow heated or air to escape, which causes warmer or cooler air from the outside to take its place. Woods found any openings in this attic and sealed them used a an expanding spray foam to prevent air leaks.

After air sealing the home, Woods blanketed the floor with blown in cellulose insulation. Cellulose insulation the “green,” insulation choice because it is made from recycled newspapers that would otherwise be sent to a landfill. It’s treated with a nontoxic borate solution that makes it noncombustible as well as resistant to mold and pests. When this insulation is combined with air sealing, it can reduce heating and cooling costs up to 40%.

OJ and Susan F. are thrilled that their home will be much more comfortable as winter fast approaches and their choice to upgrade their attic insulation will end up paying for itself with the money they save on heating and cooling.

Partially Finished Basement Waterproofed in Saint Charles, MO

Tom L. of Saint Charles, MO had cracks in his foundation walls. The cracked stretched across the walls and had allowed an alarming about of water to get into his partially finished basement so he called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Adam R. assessed the basement and recommended installing Geo-Lock Wall Anchors as well as a basement waterproofing system.

Woods installed the Geo-Lock Wall Anchors by driving galvanized steel anchor rods through the cracked foundation walls and attaching them to steel earth anchors embedded in stable soil conditions in the yard. Steel wall plates are connected to the anchor rods on the inside of the wall and the components are tightened to permanently stabilize the walls in place and prevent future damage.

The WaterGuard drainage system was installed under the cement floors along the perimeter of the basement. Other drainage systems are installed along the footing of the home or on the exterior of the foundation and are notorious for becoming clogged by mud and debris. WaterGuard is installed on top of the concrete footing to prevent it from clogging as it collects encroaching water from the foundation walls and floors and drains it to the sump pump.

The Twin Pack was installed to accept the water from the WaterGuard and pump it out and away from the basement through its discharge lines. The Twin Pack contains a primary and secondary pump so it can keep the basement dry in light drizzles and heavy downpours.

On the exterior of the home, IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines. If the discharge lines become frozen during cold winter months, IceGuards have slotted openings to give water an alternative escape route into the yard so it doesn’t come back into the basement.

Tom L. has piece of the mind now because his foundation walls are safe and secure and his partially basement will remain dry.

Partially Finished Basement Waterproofed in Creal Springs, IL

The partially finished basement in Brady C.’s Creal Springs, IL home leaked with each rain. The wood paneling on his walls was ruined and the small store-bought dehumidifier he had in his basement was ineffective at preventing musty smells. He also had leaky windows so he called Woods Basement Systems. Design Specialist Jake S. assessed the basement and recommended a basement waterproofing system.

Woods replaced the leaky basement windows with EverLast windows. EverLast windows are made of double paned insulated glass in reinforced vinyl frames. The frames will never rust or rot. The windows are installed to prevent water or air from escaping from the gaps around the windows and because they are double paned, they prevent major heat loss through the windows.

Over the foundation walls, Woods installed CleanSpace vapor barrier. CleanSpace is a thick and durable plastic liner that prevents moisture from entering the basement through the basement walls, instead directing it down to the perimeter drainage system. It also gives the basement a much brighter and cleaner appearance.

The WaterGuard drainage system was installed under the cement floors along the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard is situated on top of the concrete footing to keep it mud-free as it collected water from the foundation walls and floors and drains it to the sump pump.

The TripleSafe was installed to take the water collected by the WaterGuard and eject it safely out of the basement through its discharge lines. The TripleSafe contains two powerful cast-iron pumps and a battery back up pump to protect the basement from severe weather and power outages.

IceGuards were installed on the discharge lines on the exterior of the home. IceGuards feature slotted openings to prevent water from getting back into the basement if the lines become frozen. They give the water an alternative escape route into the yard.

Woods replaced the store-bought dehumidifier with the SaniDry. The SaniDry dehumidifier is as energy efficient as the smaller unit but it is much more powerful. It can remove up to 109 pints of water from the air per day which keeps relative humidity low. It prevents musty smells and conditions that allow mold to grow.

Brady C. is relieved that his basement is now dry and he no longer has to worry about water damage in the future.

CleanSpace Encapsulation System Makes Crawl Space Usable in O'Fallon, IL

Michelle O. of O’Fallon, IL had a damp and humid crawl space in her home. The moisture in her crawl space was causing the wooden floor joists above to rot. Metal pipes as well as the floor support system she’d had installed by a different company were rusting due to the high relative humidity. The flimsy plastic liner she had in the crawl space did little to nothing to keep moisture out so she called Woods Basement Systems for a free inspection. After assessing the crawl space, Design Specialist John S. recommended a crawl space encapsulation system.

Over the foundation walls and dirt floors, Woods installed CleanSpace. CleanSpace is a durable plastic moisture barrier that is secured in place to seal out moisture and keep the crawl space dry and usable. It’s mold resistant and its bright white color maximizes available light within the crawl space.

Drainage Matting was installed under the CleanSpace along the dirt floors of the crawl space. Drainage Matting is dimpled to prove channels for moisture from the dirt floors to disperse.

The SaniDry dehumidifier was also installed in the crawl space. The SaniDry dehumidifier is as energy efficient as smaller store-bought units but much more powerful. It can remove up to 109 pints of water from crawl space air in a day. It keeps relative humidity low to prevent the conditions that cause rot, rust and mold.

Michelle O. has peace of mind that her crawl space will remain dry and that she can safely use it for storage.

CleanSpace, TerraBlock, and SilverGlo Installed in Affton, MO

Affton, Missouri homeowner Barbara tried home fixes to her musty gravel crawl space. When they didn't help she gave Woods Basement Systems a call. System Design Specialist Brandon B. devleoped a solution.

Foreman James L. and his crew installed crawl space encapsulation, including CleanSpace with drainage matting, SilverGlo insulation, TerraBlock insulation, Vent Covers, and a SaniDry Sedona.

A full crawl space encapsultion works to keep the crawl space at a low relative humidity. It also seals off the crawl space from the dirt, allergens, mold, and critters that can get in when it is open and vented.

Vent Covers are gasketed covers for the crawl space vents. They keep the weather and air out of the space reducing the relative humidity, keeping the temperature consistent, and keeps pest out.

CleanSpace is an inorganic anti-microbial vapor barrier that seals the crawl space in. This will reduce allergens in the air, increasing the air quality and smell. It also provides energy savings because dry air is cheaper to heat and cool.

TerraBlock under the CleanSpace is a great way to insulate the floor of a gravel crawl space. It adds to the value of the encapsulation by increasing energy savings. It is lined with a vapor barrier and thicker than CleanSpace so it cannot be punctured and makes a softer surface for you and service professional who need to be in the space.

Drainage matting is that extra layer of protection from moisture seeping in through the floor. It gives the water vapor that enters through the ground a path to follow to the sump pump to leave the crawl space.

SilverGlo insulation goes on the walls for added R-Value insulation. The tiny graphite particles reflect the cool or warm air back into the space doubling the efficiency.

A SaniDry Sedona is the perfect finishing element. It can filter 120 pints of liquid from the air in using the same electricity as a 40-pint unit. It is the only Energy Star rated dehumidifier. At 60 pounds it is easy to move around in the crawl space and is self-draining. It filters the air to remove dust mite droppings and other allergens as well.

Replacing Pumps in Energy, IL.

Homeowner Michael D. had previously had a TripleSafe™ sump pump system installed in their basement in Energy IL. When the time came for a maintenance check, Dave P. checked the pumps and the basement for signs of wear or water damage.

During his inspection, Dave was able to replace one of the pumps in the TripleSafe™ that needed to be fixed. The new pump was installed in place of the old, maintaining the effectiveness of the TripleSafe™ system without interrupting protection to get a new replacement. Dave also noticed that the air in the basement was still somewhat damp. To fix this problem, he installed a Sedona dehumidifier. The Sedona will drain moisture out of the air and pour it directly into the TripleSafe™ pump so it can be pumped out of the home. The Sedona will also filter the air, removing things like mold spores and dust mites and making the air feel more comfortable and breathable.

Dave P. will return again for the next maintenance check to continue to ensure that Michael D. and his home are protected by the best waterproofing solutions in the best possible condition.

The Need for Incapsulated Crawlspaces

This crawlspace in Sappington, MO. was left unprotected from the hazards that come with a dirt floor. The dirt floor acts as a highway for insects, mold and water vapor to enter the home from below.

These hazards can lead to serious damage to the roof of the crawlspace - which is the floor to the rooms above! By incapsulating the crawlspace and sealing the dirt floor and walls with CleanSpace™, the pests, mold and water vapor can be blocked and the crawlspace protected.

It's particularly important to block water vapor from rising into the crawlspace, as this water vapor will feed mold growth and cause damage to the wooden structures and insulation above. Once the insulation gets wet, it loses its form and practically all of its insulating properties. The damp air will also rise into the home above and, because damp air is harder to condition, it will make the entire home less energy efficient.

By incapsulating this crawlspace, the homeowner will have a safer, more energy efficient home that can be properly insulated now that water vapor and mold are blocked out of the crawlspace.
