Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Protection from Leaky Basements in Chesterfield, MO.
Homeowner Kathy H. needed to protect her basement from harmful water leaks. Water was able to enter her basement through the gap where the floor and the wall met, as well as by leaking out of pipes or condensing out of the air. This basement in Chesterfield, MO. was under seige from water from every angle.
But Dave P. of Woods Basement Systems had all the answers. To deal with water leaking from the gap between the floor and the walls, Dave installed WaterGuard™. WaterGuard™ is a drainage system perfectly designed to collect water from beneath the floor and direct it to the sump pump system. Unlike other systems that sit in the dirt and get clogged, WaterGuard™ sits on top of the footing, out of the mud. This placement allows it to collect water before it rises above the floor without collecting mud and debris. Once the system is installed, walls can be finished (or refinished) above, hiding WaterGuard™ from sight.
But, while WaterGuard™ could prevent water beneath the floor from rising up into the basement, it could not stop leaks from dripping down from above. In this home, a tiny gap between the wall and the pipes was allowing water to leak inside. This water would drip down the wall, where it could get anything leaning against the wall wet as well as allowing water to wick into the air and make the basement air feel damp and uncomfortable.
The solution to this problem was to install a WellDuct extension. This extension, usually used to keep window wells from flooding, is attached to the wall and ties into the WaterGuard™ system to allow water to flow from the leak into the sump pump without being able to threaten the home. A hole is drilled through the wall to drain the water that collects by the gap while the gap itself is resealed. This allows the water building up outside to be drained while also sealing the gap so that uncomfortable air can't flow into the home.
As a final step towards a dry, comfortable basement, Dave P. installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This dehumidifier will drain moisture out of the air to keep the basement feeling comfortable and clean. By keeping the air dry, the Sedona will also help prevent the growth of mold and help reduce potential smells that can make basements feel uncomfortable or cave-like.
The leaks in this Chesterfield home won't be an issue any longer thanks to WaterGuard™ protection and a Sedona cleaning the air.
WaterGuard™ Beneath the Walls
The bottom of these walls is removed to install WaterGuard™. Once the system is in place, the walls will be replaced so that the room looks the same as before while also being protected from water leaks.
Drainage System with Sump Pump
WaterGuard™ is installed beneath the finised walls and drains water rising from beneath the floor into this sump pump to be removed from the home.
Leaky Gap Between Pipes
A gap between the pipe and the wall allowed water to leak inside. A WellDuct™ extension will drain the water away before it reaches that gap and keep the inside wall dry and leak-free.
WellDuct™ Used to Prevent Leaks
Once WellDuct™ is placed to collect the leak from the gap, the area is resealed to prevent leaks outside of the WellDuct™ area as well as prevent outside air from getting in.
Sedona Dehumidifer
This powerful dehumidifer will wring the air dry and filter out particles like mold spores at the same time.
